Optus Signs Up Oppo For Oz:Chinese Cheapie Takes on Apple

Optus Signs Up Oppo For Oz:Chinese Cheapie Takes on AppleThe manufacturer of
some of the world’s slimmest and fastest-charging Android phones says that
Optus will start selling its Silver R7 smartphone on a $40-a-month plan
that includes 500 megabytes of data, unlimited calls and texts to standard
national numbers.

In July, Oppo announced it had signed up Dick Smith to sell the R7 and R7 Plus
smartphones in its roughly 400 retail stores but said it would like to sign up
other carriers.

The Oppo R7 looks remarkably like Apple’s top-selling iPhone 6 – indeed The
Australian’s Chris Griffith in a review yesterday described its design as an
“iPhone 6 rip-off”- but noted the phone is a fraction of the iPhone
price and can recharge in 30 minutes.

“The R7 is not as good as the iPhone 6, but it costs $449 RRP,”
Griffith noted, adding: “Slot in a 128GB microSD card and you have the
storage capacity to rival Apple’s 128GB bestseller, which costs $1299
locally.”
