Snapchat Spectacles Go Global With EU Expansion

Social media giant Snapchat is looking to improve its fortunes after a rocky few months on the stock exchange, with the announcement that its Spectacles are now available in Europe.

As in America, the product will be available via the company’s iconic vending machines in a number of even-more-iconic tourist locations (such as The London Eye, the Eiffel Tower, the canals of Venice, a beach in Barcelona and Berlin’s high ropes).

Reports say the additional Snapbots are due to appear in other “surprising locations” around the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy in the coming months.

Customers in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK are also be able to buy the Spectacles online at their standard price of £130 or 150 euros.

Despite arriving with a lot of buzz, the ultra-affordable wearable hasn’t exactly lit the world on-fire with some analysts speculating Snap sold 61,500 units over the period.

All told, the company’s Spectacles generated only $8 million out of a total of $150 million in revenue over the first quarter of 2017.

Apart from a number of promotional units, Snapchat’s Spectales have yet to make it to the Australian market.

However, given the pressures now placed on the company by shareholders, local availability is expected sooner rather than later.
