Valve’s long-awaited Steam Machine could launch before June 29, after fans uncovered a potential clue in the company’s US regulatory filings.

The compact SteamOS gaming PC, first revealed in November, has already been confirmed for a northern hemisphere summer launch, but Valve has yet to announce an exact release date or pricing.

The latest speculation centres on FCC filings reviewed by a Reddit user and first reported by Notebookcheck. The user compared Valve’s Steam Machine documents with filings for the new Steam Controller, which launched last month.

According to the analysis, Valve submitted Steam Controller documents to the FCC in November 2025 but kept the user manual and product images confidential until May 20, after the controller had already gone on sale.

The Steam Machine appears to follow a similar pattern. Its user manual and product images are reportedly scheduled to become public on June 29, leading fans to speculate the hardware could launch on or before that date.

The theory remains unconfirmed, and FCC confidentiality dates can be changed. However, it aligns with Valve’s recent confirmation to developers that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset are both “shipping this summer.”

The bigger question for Australian buyers may be price.

Valve has previously warned that global memory and SSD shortages have complicated its launch plans, with AI data centre demand pushing up component costs across the PC market.

As previously reported, Valve does not intend to subsidise the Steam Machine like a traditional console, instead pricing it closer to a comparable gaming PC.

Leaks have suggested the device could land well above PlayStation 5 pricing, with estimates around A$920 to A$1,000 or more.

Valve is also under pressure to avoid a repeat of the Steam Controller launch, which saw Australian stock sell out within hours after pre-orders opened at 3AM AEST, followed by scalping and checkout failures.

The Steam Machine is expected to offer roughly six times the performance of the Steam Deck, support 4K gaming using AMD upscaling technology and run Valve’s Linux-based SteamOS.

For now, June 29 is the date fans are watching.
