Watch Out! Samsung ‘Galaxy Gear’ Revealed

The phone titan has filed an application to trademark “Galaxy Gear” with the US patents office, dated July 29.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is described as “wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band, or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages,” according to the filing.

The Samsung smart watch is designed for “keeping track of or managing personal information; smart phones; tablet computers; portable computers.”

The filing, made by Samsung Electronics Korea, who already makes Galaxy smartphones and tablets, was first reported by Galaxy club blog.

The Koreans previously confirmed a smartwatch was in the making, hot on the heels of Sony and Jawbone’s Up
Apple, too, is rumored to have a similar ‘iwatch’ in the product pipeline.
Wearable tech is the new must-have accessory, with local analyst Telsyte predicting the “emerging” devices market, including smart watches like Jawbone Up, wrist bands and glasses, will exceed $1 billion by 2016 in OZ, alone.
One in four Aussies are open to the idea of wearable computers like the much-hyped Google Glass.
Earlier this year, Jawbone released ‘Up’, billed as a life partner, telling you how many steps you took in a day, monitors diet and sleeping patterns.  Sony, too, has an Android based smartwatch.

And speaking of watch stuff, Samsung’s head of content Evan Manolis will present to media on its WatchON TV app, and how it works across Samsung’s smartphone, tablet and smart TVs, tomorrow in Sydney.
He will talk about the key partners and services available through WatchOn and Samsung Hub.
Samsung reps are staying schtum on whether any new announcements will be made, however, so watch this space.
