Optus Marketing Boss Quits…Cryptic Tweet Holds Clue?
Optus Head of Marketing and Brand, Nathan Rosenberg has quit, it emerged yesterday.
Marketing boss quit suddenly as Optus announced a drop in profits and mobile subscribers, earlier this week.
Rosenberg joined in late 2012 and referred to his role at Optus as ‘the gig of a lifetime’. He spearheaded Optus’ brand relaunch last year.Optus today confirmed Rosenberg’s resignation and said “he will be leaving in a few months to take up a role in New York.” No reason for the departure was given, but an Optus spokesperson refuted suggestions his resignation was related to the telco’s recent disappointing performance which saw customers numbers fall 1.3% to 9.4 million in Q2.
The result is absolutely “not related” and the marketing boss simply “decided to move on”, an Optus spokesperson told CN and said his departure date is still unconfirmed, despite reports it was set for September.
Rosenberg last tweeted from his account @nathandr on August 19, with a cryptic link to a Mashable article entitled ’10 Types of Bosses You Don’t Want to Work With’ saying “I already know which one I am.”
This may suggest he clashed with senior management at his former employer. He reported to Optus Consumer CEO Paul O Sullivan.
Optus marketing dept was trimmed down in 2013 as part of a restructure.
An internal and external search for his replacement is now underway.
“We wish Nathan a bright future,” Optus said in a statement.
He previously did a stint at Optus Mobile & TV between 2005-08.
