![]() According to NPD Group figures, PlayStation 4 was the best selling console in Australia last year, ahead of arch rival Xbox One.
The Australian console market grew 27% in 2013, on the back of the launch of Xbox One and PS4 in November.
But Microsoft insists gamers spent more on the Xbox One platform, including higher unit sales of Xbox One, games and accessories, than its rival, said Jeremy Hinton, Business Group Lead Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft Australia.
The XBox is $50 more expensive than PS4, which may explain why gamers spent more.
He also pointed to “limited” supply of the console in OZ, since launch.
“Xbox One saw higher unit sales of consoles, games and accessories than any other next generation console in Australia last year and topped all prior console launches in the country’s history.”
“Supply of the Xbox One has been limited since Christmas, however we are doing our best to meet demand, especially for Australians looking to join the action with the launch of Titanfall on March 13. He said the launch of Xbox One, continues to exceed expectations, locally.
OZ gamers spent over $2 billion on games last year – up 13% – on the back of mobile and new platform games.
XBox is launching new titles, Titanfall, Kinect Sports Rival, Project Spark, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in the coming weeks, which will boost the platform further, says Hinton.
“Added to this is the Xbox One’s continuous innovation with a commitment to listening to community feedback and delivering new features through system updates faster than ever before.”
