WhatsApp is testing a redesigned Android interface that could change how users move around the app, with Meta AI set to become a more permanent part of the main navigation.

The changes have been spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.10 and are still at an early stage, meaning the final design could look different before it reaches the public.

The biggest change centres on the navigation bar. Instead of keeping Meta AI as a floating shortcut above the compose button, WhatsApp appears to be moving it directly into the bottom navigation area.

The updated bar also adopts a more rounded, oval-shaped appearance and introduces greater transparency than the current Android design. The look brings the app closer to WhatsApp’s iOS interface, although the Android version does not appear to be using the same level of transparency.

A dark mode version of the redesigned navigation bar is also being developed.

The beta build currently shows Meta AI in more than one position, which suggests Meta is still experimenting with the final layout rather than testing a finished interface.

There is no confirmed release date for the redesign, and development could continue for several weeks before it is ready for a wider rollout.

The changes indicate that Meta is looking to make its AI tools more visible inside WhatsApp while also refreshing the app’s overall navigation experience on Android.
