Volvo Rolls Out Apple Music and Dolby Atmos to Global Car Fleet
More than two million Volvo cars will soon have Apple Music integration, with an over-the-air software update being rolled out by the car manufacturer.Â
The feature is available on Android Automotive OS-equipped Volvo models from model year 2020 onward, with rollout timing to vary by model. Select Bowers & Wilkins-equipped Volvo models will be able to experience premium in-car audio with Apple Music Spatial Audio powered by Dolby Atmos.
The update allows drivers to sign in with their Apple Music accounts to access and control playlists, libraries, live radio and recommendations via the vehicle interface and voice controls, without using Apple CarPlay via their smartphones.

The move highlights the growing role of software-defined features in the automotive market, which embraces cloud connectivity and over-the-air updates to add functionality to vehicles after they have left the showroom.
Volvo’s upcoming EX60 will ship with Apple Music integrated from launch, while existing customers across a range of models, including the EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40, will receive access as the update becomes available.
Owners of the Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 equipped with the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system will be able to experience Dolby Atmos-enabled tracks. This feature is designed to deliver more immersive and premium audio that surrounds listeners with music, audio and vocals.
Volvo is also offering eligible new and returning Apple Music users up to three months of free access through the Volvo Cars app as part of the rollout.
