Twitter is the latest social media company to allow its users to run a digital store from its platform.
Twitter Shops will initially only be available to a limited number of retailers, and will allow vendors to promote up to 50 products on a digital catalogue attached to their profile.
Verison, Gay Pride Apparel, and All I Do Is Cook, are some of the retailers with active Twitter Shops operating.
“People are already talking about products on Twitter,” explains Product Manager David Lie-Tjauw.
“We want Twitter Shops to be the home for merchants on Twitter where they can intentionally curate a catalogue of products for their Twitter audience and build upon the product discussions already happening on our service by giving shoppers a point of action where a conversation can become a purchase.”
Twitter attempted to enter the world of commerce in 20014, when it added a ‘Buy’ button. The addition was not successful, and it was quietly discontinued shortly after.
