Top-5 Notebook Shipments Mixed

Global top-five notebook brand vendors’ combined shipments were up in August, but fell year-on–year, according to Taiwan’s Digitimes Research. With the consumer notebook sector failing to stimulate demand from new innovations, Digitimes said the overall notebook market faces difficulties ahead due to its reliance on the enterprise area.

Hewlett-Packard, which performed strongly in the 12 months to August, had only a single-digit percentage year-on-year shipment growth in August.

Lenovo returned to number two spot, but its shipments were down by more than 10 percent for the year.

Dell posted year-on-year growth in August shipments, thanks to stable demand from the enterprise sector. Asustek and Acer both saw an increase of more than 30 percent of shipments in August but Asustek had weaker output than in the previous year’s result
