California-based company Roku look set to launch their own branded line-up of smart TVs, to battle streaming rivals Amazon and Sky.
With reports they have been considering the move for more than a year, there is news they have used focus groups to measure customer response.
“[Roku] showed different models, feature sets and names, sizes, price points,” says a source.
“This is a manufacturing operation. They want to go into making their own TVs.”
Roku make excellent media streamers, as well as licensing their operating system to smart television producers such as Hisense and TCL.
But with consumers moving towards internet-based content, they seem to want to stay in line with their rivals.
In the UK, Sky unveiled their Sky Glass smart TV in October, and Amazon US released the first Amazon-built units not long after that.
