Sony Launch 16K Crystal TV For $5 Million
Sony has officially released its 790-inch 16K Crystal LED TV internationally for around US$5 million, with a Melbourne based distributor potentially tipped to bring it down under.
First unveiled at CEDIA 2019, the modular design TV will be available in the US through ‘a select group of specially trained and certified’ Sony custom home dealers.
As previously reported by ChannelNews, Melbourne based distributor Audio Active is tipped to potentially leverage its relationship with Sony to bring the massive TV to Australia.
The TV is made up of 576 Crystal LED units priced at around US$1000 each as reported by TechHive.
Because of the modular design the screen can be configured into multiple viewing sizes from full HD (using 18 units), 4K (using 72 units) and 8K (using 288 units).
Each ZRD-2 panel can be configured to any dimension or aspect ratio, coupled with a video wall display controller (ZRCT-100 or 200).
Sony claims that each panel is capable of delivering more than a million-to-one contrast ratio with a 180-degree viewing angle.
When compared to traditional TV LED lights, the Crystal LEDs are 100 times smaller.
‘By offering the display in modular configurations, consumers now have an exciting new option for the transition from home projection systems and large-screen TVs,’ said Mike Fasulo, president and chief operating officer at Sony North America.
Initially geared at commercial and entertainment use, Sony has made it available in the US in an effort ‘to get closer to consumers’.
