Sonos, as tipped by ChannelNews, has finally launched a bottom end soundbar called Ray, that more about what’s not in it than what is, the US company is also set to plague us with their own voice control system similar to the hated Bixby.

The move to doing their own voice system which appears to be limited in the accents or languages it will recognise, comes after Sonos had a major bust up with Google.

The Sonos voice control will be available as a free update in the US and France as of 7th of June.

Limited in what it can do, it will only allow users to ask for tracks, skip tracks, adjust the volume and move music between speakers or rooms which is what Google and Alexa already do.

Forget about turning on the lights or giving you vision of a security camera for these voice commands you will have to go to Google or Alexa.

All requests will be processed locally on a Sonos speaker, no audio or transcripts will be sent or stored in the cloud.

This is achieved via chipset that houses the voice control system and the programmed commands.

The limited SVC will initially only work with Sonos Radio, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and Pandora.

There is no Tidal or Spotify.

The limited feature Ray soundbar will sit alongside the Sonos Arc and Beam models, it’s expected to sell for approximately $495 which is expensive considering what is missing when compared with similar soundbars that are cheaper than the Sonos offering.

Missing is a nARC-compatible HDMI socket, instead users will have to connect using an optical cable.
