Sonos Punts On New Top End 3D Sound Speak To Stop Stock Slide

With their stock value down 27% this month alone, Sonos whose last lot of new products failed to fire up consumers is now having a crack at bringing out a new high-end speaker that they claim will be capable of delivering 3D sound.

The Company that has already delayed their Sub Mini, is tipped to be working on a new speaker codenamed Optimo 2 that will incorporate several new drivers, including several that fire in different directions from beneath the shell and between the front speaker grille and backplate.

The concept is not new with Harman showing ChannelNews 3D speakers 3 years ago at CES.

The Verge has apparently seen the new speaker which is encased in what they are describing as a funky, dual-angled shell.

Currently Sonos is leaking information in an effort to stimulate interest in the sound Company after a less than impressive Q3 result with the shares down year to date close to 50%.

Recently the business reported that quarterly revenues declined 1.8% year over year to US $372 million, owing to soft demand for its products including their new Beam soundbar.

The prototype 3D speaker is bronze-coloured and similar in size to the Companies Play 5 speaker.

It has twice as much RAM and eight times more flash memory than any previous Sonos speaker. it will also support music playback over Wi-Fi.

The Verge claims that Optimo 2 is the lead product in a trio of in-the-works devices, which will also include an Optimo 1 and Optimo 1 SL. “SL” designates that the latter will not include built-in microphones. The three products are intertwined with a major forthcoming update to Sonos’ software platform that will unlock new functionality.
