Skullcandy has unveiled the Crusher PLYR 720 gaming headset, combining the company’s signature multi-sensory bass technology with THX Spatial Audio and open-back acoustics to create what the brand describes as a “4D gaming experience.”

The headset launches with two model variants supporting different platform configurations and will be available exclusively through Skullcandy.com and Amazon.

The Crusher PLYR 720 integrates Skullcandy’s patented Crusher bass drivers, which fire directly into users’ heads and ears rather than around them, creating what the company characterises as adding an adjustable subwoofer to gameplay.

This approach differentiates the headset from haptic alternatives by delivering more natural, visceral sound sensations that users can physically feel during gaming sessions.

“This isn’t just immersive – it’s 4D gaming,” said Justin Regan, vice president of marketing at Skullcandy.

“This is a winning combination of features, advanced app customisation, and crisp audio.”

The company positions the headset as providing heightened hearing and sensation that allows gamers to feel in-game events before seeing or hearing them through traditional audio channels.

THX Spatial Audio integration provides 360-degree soundstage capabilities with enhanced directional awareness for competitive gaming advantages.

Mike Henein, director of product development at THX Ltd, noted that “THX Spatial Audio brings the precision and pinpoint accuracy of advanced audio positioning that allows gamers to more accurately locate sneaking enemies, avoid whizzing bullets, and gain early detection of nearby threats.”

Console and mobile gamers can access THX Spatial Audio with head tracking through the Skullcandy Mobile App, adding dynamic audio positioning that responds to head movement.

The open-back acoustic design creates an expansive soundstage intended to enhance positional audio accuracy for competitive gaming scenarios.

Skullcandy offers two model configurations: a Multi-Platform version supporting wireless play on PlayStation, Switch, PC, and mobile with wired Xbox support, and a Designed for Xbox model providing wireless Xbox connectivity plus support for other platforms.

Both variants feature dual wireless connectivity through Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio and low-latency 2.4GHz connections.

The headset includes advanced customisation through Skull-HQ desktop and Skullcandy mobile applications, enabling users to adjust RGB lighting, customise Crusher EQ settings, control THX Spatial Audio features, and create personalised Enhanced Sound Perception profiles.

The Enhanced Sound Perception feature calibrates audio specifically for individual hearing characteristics to provide competitive advantages.

Additional features include dual wireless audio streaming for simultaneous game audio and secondary content with independent volume controls, Clear Voice Smart Mic technology with sidetone and chat mix controls, and up to 48 hours of battery life.

The design incorporates breathable memory foam ear cushions and a weight-dispersing suspension headband for extended gaming sessions.

The headset will be available exclusively through Skullcandy.com and Amazon, targeting gamers seeking enhanced immersive audio experiences across multiple platforms.

The launch represents Skullcandy’s continued expansion into specialised gaming audio equipment, leveraging its bass technology expertise for competitive gaming applications.

The Crusher PLYR 720’s multi-platform support addresses the growing cross-platform gaming market while the specialised Xbox variant recognises that platform’s specific connectivity requirements.

The headset positions itself in the premium gaming audio segment while offering advanced features for competitive performance and entertainment value.

Industry observers note the increasing importance of spatial audio and haptic feedback in gaming headsets as developers integrate more sophisticated audio design into games, making positional accuracy and immersive sound critical for competitive performance and entertainment value.
