Samsung’s Next AI Glasses Could Add Built-In Display
Samsung is reportedly working on a second generation of AI glasses that could add a built-in display, potentially giving the wearable far more practical use than the camera-and-voice model expected to launch first.
According to a report from The Elec, Samsung has asked Samsung Display to develop a micro-display small enough to fit inside a glasses frame, with a target size of less than 0.2 inches.
The company is said to be considering both OLEDoS, also known as micro-OLED, and LEDoS technologies as it weighs cost, performance and manufacturing complexity.
Rather than trying to reproduce a full smartphone screen, Samsung is reportedly leaning towards a simpler 4-bit greyscale display. That would be suited to text, icons, notifications and navigation prompts rather than photos or video.
White OLEDoS is said to be the leading option because it could be cheaper and easier to manufacture at scale than a full RGB micro-display.
Samsung has reportedly not yet decided whether the display will appear in one lens or both. A monocular design would show information in a single eye, while a binocular setup could provide a broader visual experience.

The glasses are still expected to work primarily as a smartphone companion rather than a standalone computing device, with the phone continuing to handle most processing and connectivity.
Samsung’s first AI glasses, expected later this year, are being developed with Google, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker and are understood to rely on cameras, microphones and voice interaction without a built-in screen.
Industry sources cited in the report suggest the display-equipped version could arrive in the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028, depending on the progress of the display technology.
If the project reaches market, Samsung would be moving closer to rivals developing lightweight smart glasses that can place information directly in the wearer’s field of view.
