Samsung’s New Foldables Improve Microsoft Integration

Samsung’s new foldable phones will have a deeper integration with Microsoft Office, Teams and Outlook, thanks to apps tailored to the devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, announced overnight, will offer Teams users new functions such as split screen between presentations and calls, and S Pen support for the whiteboard. Outlook’s dual pane mode, meanwhile, will enable reading full emails while previewing others on the side, similar to desktop.

According to Patrick Chomet, executive vice president, head of Mobile Products & Experiences at Samsung, the Multi-Active window on the new devices will allow running multiple apps at the same time.

“For example, you can open Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and easily drag and drop a table right into your presentation. Now, you can even run two instances of the same app,” he said.

The new Samsung foldables are open for pre-order now ahead of their September 10 launch into Australia.
