Samsung Electronics has introduced an annual artwork subscription service for its premium TV, The Frame.

The subscription service offers access to more than 2,500 pieces of art in a 4K QLED display year-round.

Samsung Art Store, the South Korean company’s digital curator service, offers artwork from distinguished artists, museums and industry tastemakers.

The Frame, Samsung’s lifestyle TV, doubles as a digital canvas. When a user is not using it as a TV, it can display artwork or pictures on the screen.

In Australia, The Frame is available is sizes starting from A$799 for the 32-inch version, up to A$3999 for the 85-inch version.

The subscription fee costs A$5.99 per month. New subscribers also receive a three-month free trial.

Samsung has also introduced Art Stream, a new feature that offers access to 20 curated art pieces for free every month.

“We are introducing the annual membership service so that users can fully experience the value of The Frame as a platform to appreciate artwork,” a Samsung official said.

The Frame’s Matte Display minimises light reflection, allowing people to view the artwork displayed on them even if the TV is placed under overhead room lights, or even in daylight conditions.

The Frame earned the Pantone Validated ArtfulColor certification earlier this year, which Samsung says highlights its colour reproduction capability.

Pantone Validated ArtfulColor evaluates if displays can faithfully simulate a range of physical Pantone Color cards and Pantone SkinTone colour cards under CIE standard illuminant D65, which portrays illumination that is more-or-less equivalent to that of the average midday light in Western or Northern Europe.

In April, the company debuted the music streaming app “essential;” on Apps, the app store for Samsung TV too.

Through it, users can either search for music of their choice or listen to the playlist recommended by the app on the TV. In the four months since its launch, that app has reportedly gained more than 10,000 downloads.
