Motorola’s Edge series has become one of the most stylish alternatives to Samsung and Google’s mainstream dominance. The Edge 70 continues that trend with a device that feels as light as a feather in the hand – but can its performance match the looks?

After reviewing the impressive Motorola Edge 60 Pro last year, I was curious to see whether Motorola could maintain the same premium feel while slimming things down even further.

At just 6mm thin and weighing only 159g, the Edge 70, priced at $899, feels almost impossibly light for a phone packing a 6.7-inch display and a 4800mAh battery.

Sliding it into your pocket is effortless and it never feels bulky or top-heavy during daily use. Like most Motorola phones, the textured rear finish feels soft and secure in the hand, while the subtle camera bump naturally rests nicely against your finger.

The aircraft-grade aluminium frame gives the device a premium feel, and the Pantone colour options help it stand out from the sea of generic black slabs – mine came in bronze green.

Motorola has impressively managed to retain durability despite the ultra-thin design. The phone carries both IP68 and IP69 water resistance ratings alongside MIL-STD-810H durability certification and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It feels elegant without feeling fragile.

The 6.7-inch Super HD P-OLED display is outstanding for the price. With a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4500 nits, outdoor visibility is exceptional. Colours are vibrant without appearing oversaturated and HDR content looks fantastic.

Performance comes courtesy of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM. While this isn’t a flagship gaming chipset, it’s more than capable for everyday multitasking, social media, streaming and photography. Motorola’s clean Android experience keeps everything feeling fluid.

Photography is another strong point. The triple 50MP camera system, powered by Sony Lytia sensors and enhanced with moto ai processing, produces sharp, natural-looking images with excellent dynamic range. Skin tones in particular look realistic due to Motorola’s Pantone colour validation.

Battery life is surprisingly solid considering the phone’s slim profile.

The 4800mAh silicon-carbon battery comfortably lasts a full day, while 68W TurboPower charging gets you back up quickly. Wireless charging support is also a welcome inclusion at this price.

That said, the Edge 70 does make a few compromises.

There’s no dedicated telephoto zoom lens, and power users looking for flagship-grade gaming performance may want something with a more powerful chipset. Motorola’s software update commitment also trails behind Samsung and Google.

But for a phone well under 100 bucks, the Edge 70 hits a sweet spot between premium design, practicality and affordability.

If the Edge 60 Pro was Motorola’s endurance champion, the Edge 70 is its fashion-forward minimalist cousin – thinner, lighter and arguably more refined.

For those tossing up between the two should also consider its slightly bulkier sister – the Edge 70 Fusion, which leans harder into battery life and immersive viewing with its larger quad-curved display and bigger battery capacity.

The standard Edge 70, however, feels more performance-focused, pairing the faster Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset with a sharper high-resolution selfie camera for users who prioritise speed and photography.
