Qualcomm Bumped By Apple For Intel

Qualcomm has confirmed Apple will be moving to exclusively Intel modem chipsets for future iPhone models.

Qualcomm’s financial chief George Davis spoke to CNET saying, “We believe Apple intends to solely use our competitor’s modems rather than our modems in its next iPhone release.”

This information comes amongst conflict reports as to whether Intel or Qualcomm would lose Apple’s business.

While Davis didn’t say Intel would specifically take over the production of the modem chips, Intel is currently the only other Apple supplier capable of doing so.

On the back of the bad news, Cristiano Amon, head of Qualcomm’s chip business, is positive that they’re not out of the picture forever.

Amon says, “This is a very dynamic industry, if the opportunity presents itself, I think we will be a supplier of Apple.”

The move comes off the back of extended legal pressure from Qualcomm over Apple’s alleged patent infringement.
