PUBG: Battlegrounds Plagiarism Case Begins

The Korean gaming company responsible for the massively successful PUBG: Battlegrounds game is accusing a Chinese developer of infringing on the copyright of the popular multiplayer online battle game.

Krafton first filed a lawsuit against NetEase in May, 2018, alleging that the Chinese company’s titles Rules of Survival, and Knives Out both infringe on their own PUBG: Battlegrounds.

The pair reached a settlement in 2019, however the following year Krafton filed yet another claim, accusing NetEase of violating the settlement agreement.

In early 2022, Krafton filed a separate copyright infringement lawsuit against Singaporean gaming company Garena, who it alleges infringed on various copyrighted elements of PUBG: Battlegrounds for its own  battle-royale shooting game Free Fire.

PUBG: Battlegrounds has sold 75 million copies to date.
