Optus To Exit 3G From April 2022
Optus is looking to refresh its network technology from late April 2022 after reallocating its 2100MHz spectrum assets as consumers and enterprise shift to take advantage of the speed and advanced capabilities of 4G and 5G technologies.
Some of Optus’s 2100MHz spectrum assets that are currently used to support 3G technology, will be reallocated to provide a better 4G network experience, as well as support the growth of 5G.
In the last 12 months, we have really seen our custcustomers embrace 5G technology, with take up of 5G enabled devices growing significantly,” said Lambo Kanagaratnam, Optus managing director networks.
After April 2022, Optus will no longer offer a dual band 3G network and customers with a 2100MHz-only 3G device will need to upgrade their device to have 4G LTE capability.
