Optoma Enters Laser TV Market With 3,000 Lumen Projector
Challenging the likes of LG and Samsung, Taiwanese projector manufacturer Optoma has announced the CinemaX D2 Smart (Ultra Short Throw) Projector.
The new Laser Projection TV, boasts a DuraCore laser system which has a peak brightness of 3,000 lumens, 500 higher than the LG CineBeam HU715Q and 200 more than Samsung’s The ‘Premiere’. Being a UST projector, it needs to sit only 30cm away from the screen to create a 100-inch display.
Optoma also say that the laser system is good for up to 30,000 hours. To put that in context, for if you were to use your projector for 8 hours a day, every day, it would last over a decade.
Apart from being built to last, the CinemaX D2 Smart sports HDR support and high refresh rates, making it a great option for big screen gaming.
Disappointingly it boasts three HDMI 2.0 ports rather than HDMI 2.1, which would unlock VRR (variable refresh rates) and ALLM (auto low latency mode), but it will still hit 60Hz at 4K and 240Hz at 1080p, all response time as low as 4ms.
Whilst I wouldn’t go replacing a premium gaming monitor with the new laser TV, it serves as a great big-screen movie and TV option that can do gaming rather well.
Optoma say that the CinemaX D2 Smart has brilliant built-in audio, but for those looking to connect an external surround system or sound, there is an eARCH passthrough for Dolby Atmos.
Packaged in with the projector is an Android TV dongle, allowing users to stream from their favourite services, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus.
The Optoma CinemaX D2 Smart UST is available now from selected retailers for $4,999 AUD.
