Oppo Mocks Samsung At New Foldable Launch
The foldable smartphone battle has erupted in Australia this week, with Chinese tech giant Oppo openly targeting Samsung at the global launch of its new Find N6.
In a pointed on-stage demonstration in China, Oppo presenters took aim at Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Z Fold 7—highlighting what remains the category’s biggest weakness: the screen crease.
A freshly unboxed Samsung Fold device, left closed for roughly an hour, was opened under bright stage lights—revealing a prominent crease running down the centre of the display.
The message from Oppo was clear.
Moments later, the company unfolded its new Find N6 alongside the Samsung device, claiming a visibly flatter screen thanks to its redesigned hinge and so-called “Zero-Feel Crease” technology.

Attendees, including Australians at the event, described the difference as “distinct,” with the reduced creasing “noticeable” even under harsh lighting conditions.
Oppo says the improvement comes from a combination of new mechanical engineering and upgraded layered glass designed to minimise long-term folding marks—an issue Samsung has worked to reduce over six generations but has yet to eliminate.
Despite dominating the foldable category since its inception, Samsung continues to face criticism over crease visibility—particularly on its Flip models, where screen protectors can further exaggerate the issue.
The Find N6, set to hit Australian retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Vodafone, is positioned as a premium challenger.
It packs a 6,000mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, runs Android 16 with Oppo’s ColorOS, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Photography is another key battleground, with Oppo equipping the device with a 200MP Hasselblad-tuned main camera, supported by 50MP ultrawide and telephoto lenses, and dual 20MP front-facing cameras.
But the innovation comes at a price.
The Find N6 is expected to retail in Australia between $3,199 and $3,219, placing it firmly in ultra-premium territory.
The aggressive launch signals a broader escalation in the foldables race, with rivals—including Motorola—preparing to enter the segment, and persistent rumours pointing to a future foldable iPhone from Apple.
Industry observers say Oppo’s public challenge could shift the conversation.
“If Oppo’s demo holds up in real-world use, crease reduction could become the defining battleground for foldables,” one attendee said.
With competition intensifying and consumer expectations rising, Samsung’s long-held dominance of the foldable market is now facing its most direct threat yet.
