Only Samsung Will Sell The New $699 Galaxy Ring

Samsung Electronics is finally direct selling their all new $699 Galaxy Ring, but you won’t find it in any of the big retailers.

Samsung started teasing the Galaxy Ring in late February and then released the product five months later into select markets with Australia being the latest market to get the unique device that can only be purchased from Samsung.com.au and Samsung Experience Stores.

The ring comes in a clear transparent plastic case that is packed into a neat black retail box.

The ring sits in the center of the case, with an LED light around the device to indicate the battery capacity.

I have big fingers and when I was asked to pick a ring size I only had the choice between 5 and 13 in what appears to be US sizing.

Available in three colour choices, Titanium Silver, Titanium Black and Titanium Gold the device has a charging case that indicates the the battery level.

Users simply press the centre button, and the battery charges via a USB C port.

How the device works hinges on advanced sensors.

The ring has three sensors on the inside – for skin temperature, heart rate, and an accelerometer.

These track a variety of indicators relating to health data with information delivered to the Samsung Health app.

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Ring app “must first be paired with a Galaxy smartphone however we found at IFA 2024 that it works with any phone that has the Health app installed.

Samsung Galaxy Ring supports some air gestures, but according to the fine print, they work only with devices with One UI 6.1.1, which are only the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.

I am yet to see how accurate it is or what the metrics and reporting looks like especially when it comes to measuring sleep patterns and the use of the Ring Vs having to leave a watch on my wrist all night.

Currently Samsung has one of the best AI offerings that allows the harnessing of data to be interpreted easily, whether it’s energy score or your heart condition.

Kylie Mason, Head of Wearables at Samsung Australia, said, “We’re very excited to be bringing the Galaxy Ring to Australians, and to be the first market to launch in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region. Australia ranks amongst the most health conscious countries in the world, and we believe that Australians will embrace Galaxy Ring as a new option for a simplified and more consistent wellness tracking experience.”

“By combining the AI-powered Galaxy Ring with Samsung Health, you can enjoy a personalised and secure intelligent health experience with detailed, data driven insights.”
