“Blazingly Fast”: Billion 1.6GB/S Wireless AC Router

"Blazingly Fast": Billion 1.6GB/S Wireless AC Router

Based on a Broadcom chipset, the BiPAC 8800AXL supports ADSL2+ and is fibre-ready, using an Ethernet Wide Area Network port that hooks into an NBN connection.

It’s wireless speed that sets the BiPAC 8800AXL apart, say its maker.

The router’s support of the new IEEE 802.11 ac wireless standard can deliver wireless networking as fast as 1.6 gigabits per second (Gb/s) – four times faster than the current Wireless N protocol.

The router also has four additional Gigabit Ethernet ports plus two USB 2.0 ports, allowing for 3G/4G modem connectivity, print serving or Network-Attached Storage.

Billion’s Australian distributor PCRange will market BiPAC 8800AXL through its national network of resellers, including Harris Technology and MSY Technology, with an RRP of $239.

PCRange CEO Raaj Menon said the new router is “blazingly fast.”

“With Wireless AC and gigabit Ethernet ports, the 8800AXL is designed for the age of fibre. But its Broadcom chipset means it will deliver fast reliable Internet access over ADSL2+ until fibre arrives.”

Approved in January this year, the IEEE 802.11 ac standard promises multi-gigabit Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) speeds in coming years. Best of all, Wireless AC is backwards compatible, so it will work with the current generation of Wireless N devices.

Wireless AC provides high-throughput WLAN speeds by taking advantage of frequencies on the 5 GHz band. The BiPAC 8800AXL achieves its 1.6Gb/s speed from 300 megabits per second on the 2.4GHz frequency range and 1300Mb/s on the 5GHz range.
