Nvidia Announce RTX 4090 With 4X Performance

At long last, Nvidia has unveiled the two top cards in its upcoming 40 series (Ada Lovelace) of GPUs – the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090.

Announced during its GeForce Beyond special broadcast during the company’s GTC event, the two new cards promise power that utterly crushes the currently available 30 series.

The flagship RTX 4090 is said to be two to four times faster than the current RTX 3090 Ti flagship, sporting 24GB of GDDR6X memory. It also has quadruple the processing power.

The card was demoed on Microsoft Flight Simulator, in which it reached double the frame rate of the 3090 Ti. When tested with Portal, it delivered three times the performance, and with Nvidia’s Racer X real-time simulation demo, it achieved four times the performance.

Second from the top spec is the RTX 4080, which is said to sport two to four times the performance of the RTX 3080 Ti. During testing with Racer X, it scored four times the performance. It will also be available in 12 or 16GB GDDR6X RAM variants.

In addition, the new Ada Lovelace architecture features third-gen RTX, which features real-time path tracing and third-gen Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

What has not been revealed are the power requirements, which have been a topic of concern and speculation in the leadup to the announcement.

Benchmark tests and reports from June suggested that the 4090 would require 800W of power from your power supply, compared to the 500W the 3090 needed when massive overclocked, and usually 360-400W.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 will be available on October 12th, starting at $2,959 AUD (according to PressStart) for the Founders Edition. However, it has not been confirmed if Australia will get Founders Edition cards.

The RTX 4080 will come later in November with the 12GB model starting at $1,659 AUD and the 16GB model starting at $2,219 AUD (according to PressStart). Once again, these are Founders Edition prices, and models that may not come to Australia.

If Founders Edition Cards do not come to Oz, those interested will have to wait for third-party clocked cards such as those from MSI, which will likely cost more.
