Nokia & Huawei Tipped To Launch 5G Smartphones Early 2019

Struggling to get back into the smartphone Premier League, Nokia is tipped to be giving 2018 a miss when it comes to new devices, instead the UK Company that has the rights to the Nokia name is set to launch a 5G phone in early 2019.

At a regional 5G conference in Hong Kong attended by all three Australian Telco’s it was revealed that HMD could launch the Nokia 9 as their flagship model in 2019. It is tipped to be the world’s first phone with a penta-lens camera system. It may also just be HMD’s first 5G Nokia phone as well following the recent announcement.

Called Amon the device is set to compete with models from several other brands including Oppo who are facing tough competition from Huawei as well Sony who have still not confirmed that they will continue selling smartphones in Australia.Huawei has already confirmed plans to introduce its first 5G phones in early 2019, most likely during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tradeshow in Barcelona, which will be held February 25-28.

Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said at the conference that 5G will be a commercial reality in 2019. “5G is the technology to connect everything, every time and we expect a number of generations of Android handsets coming on 5G in 2019,” he said. As 5G is expected to drive IoT further than ever, HMD will be among the first set of brands to launch 5G-supported smartphones.
