New Klipschorn AK7 and La Scala AL6 Speakers Unveiled

Klipsch has unveiled the new generation of its Klipschorn and La Scala speakers with several new updates over the previous models.

The Klipschorn AK7 and La Scala AL6 feature new modified Tractrix midrange horns, updated compression drivers, a new finish, and for the very first time allows users to add an optional external Heritage Active Crossover.

Klipsch says that both speaker’s three-way horn-loaded designs is such that each driver is coupled to a precisely engineered horn and optimized for one of three passbands, “generating greater acoustic power from lower wattage for crystal-clear sound with minimal distortion across the frequency spectrum.” It takes little power to drive them (reportedly, you can drive a Klipschorn with just 5 watts).

For high-frequency performance, the K-771 compression driver is paired with a patented, wide-dispersion extended phase plug to minimise cancellations and equalise wavelengths.

A new 3″ KT-1133-HP midrange compression driver, made in Hope, adds a full inch to the drivers used in previous Klipsch models.

Both speakers also feature patented K-406M modified Tractrix mid-range horn and a shorter 2″ throat.

La Scala upgrades to a patented horn loaded, vented system that the company claims maximises efficiency, extends output, and lowers distortion. The K-281 12″ woofer with folded horn sits within the new enclosure.

Both new models can now be paired with a cutting-edge Heritage Active Crossover, designed by Klipsch’s VP of Technology and Innovation, Matt Spitznagle, and tuned by acoustician Roy Delgado.

The newly designed I/O panel on both the new Klipschorn and La Scala models includes passive and active inputs, and a passive output. Both models will be available with the passive crossover network installed.

Pricing and aviability in Australia are yet to be confirmed. However, in the US, the Klipschorn AK7 is priced at $17,998 (A$28,556) per pair, while the La Scala AL6 costs $14,998 (A$23,796) per pair. The optional Active Crossover is priced at $3,499 (A$5551).
