Days out from Apple releasing their new foldable for sale in Australia, the CEO of a global smartphone competitor has label their new expensive Duo a “waste of money”.

Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing and co founder of OnePlus (seen below) is an experienced mobile phone industry executive who knows a few things about smartphones.

He claims that Apple’s premium price of $3,499 for their new Duo is not worth it because it lacks core features such as a telephoto camera, a good selfie camera, and Face ID.

Pei who does not compete in the foldable market posted a YouTube video slamming the new Apple device which is expected to sell out due to limited product available and Apple iOS fans buying anything that is Apple branded despite the Company relying on brands such as Samsung for core components such as the display screen.

Pei claims “it’s A$3,499 price tag costs more than an iPhone Pro with fewer features so you’re paying more and you’re getting less.”

He’s not alone with more than 75% of Tech Radar readers when asked whether the new iPhone Duo foldable delivered value for money saying No in a voter survey.

Pei also singled out the Duo’s folding animation rather than its hinge or cameras claiming “it’s a nice animation”

But there was a caveat “it’s just an animation at the end of the day” and not really a reason to buy the phone.
