Netflix Launch Broadband Speed Tester For OZ
Netflix who in the past has complained of slow broadband speeds in Australia, has launched a brand new website that can actually measure the speed of your internet.
The new Netflix’s Fast.com will tell you whether your data carrier is to blame for Netflix stutter vision.
The new service is a valuable tool for anyone who wants to check their internet connection speed in real time.
You can use the website on desktop and mobile devices too, so you can gauge how much better (or worse) your home speeds are compared to mobile 4G internet.
Netflix isn’t trying to compete against Speedtest.net – the current market leader for internet speed-checks – and even links out to the site.
The move is simply a ploy by Netflix to educate its customers on why their video streams might be lagging – and more importantly, how it’s probably not Netflix’s fault 100% of the time.
In a statement, Netflix’s David Fullagar said:“We all want a faster, better internet, yet internet speeds vary greatly and can be affected by other users on your network or congestion with your internet service provider. When you’re experienced streaming issues, fast.com allows you to check the download speeds you’re getting from your internet service provider.”
Fullagar also recommends cross-referencing your Fast.com speed with your Speedtest.net results to get a better idea of the exact quality of your internet connection at any given time. You can access Fast.com in any country, free of charge – and you don’t need to be a Netflix member either.
