Microsoft Announces Windows 11 Release Date

Microsoft has updated its “coming this fall” release window for Windows 11, with the new operating system coming to the general public on October 5.

In its announcement, Microsoft explain that due to “the tremendous learnings from Windows 10”, new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first, before rolling out “over time” to in-market devices “based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience.”

Microsoft says it expects all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.
