LG X boom Products Panned Despite Big Ticket Audio Endorsement
OPINION: LG has tries to disguise their audio speakers by linking them with big names the latest being Black-Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, the only problem is they are not up to scratch according to reviewers.
Recently UK publication Trusted Reviews tested a number LG Xboom speakers they concluded “We haven’t’ reviewed one that’s been spectacular”.
They claim that they “can’t find anything that scores over a four”.
In the past they have been labelled Meridan and before that Harman Kardon.
Trusted Reviews wrote “All the technical know-how and sound expertise that LG has in its locker hasn’t resulted in a speaker that’s broken the mould or put LG on the map in the same way as JBL or Marshall”.
The Company that is moving to sell direct often uses Chinese audio components with LG basically being a distributor of speakers that is a mix of other company’s components with a big audio linked brand name thrown into the mix as an expensive marketing ploy.
Better known for their dishwashers & dryers the South Korean Company are pitching the XG2BT which is on sale at Bi Right Home Appliances in Australia and eBay, and the XG8T as party box alternatives to JBL who hold up to 75% of this market.
Desperate to be taken taken seriously in this market “They have thrown everything including the kitchen sink in terms of specs. Military grade design, solid battery life, clever design features, they cover the bases” claims Trusted reviews” only to be rejected by the likes of JB Hi Fi, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys for the simple reason the products are seen as not being up to scratch.
Trusted Reviews claims that “The sound for both speakers was their weakest point, and the problem for both was the same – they lacked balance”.
“The Standard audio mode would sound clear and detailed with some tracks but lack bass” they claimed.
“That’s not what you’d want from a speaker. You want a sound that works across all genres, an approach that’s strong across the frequency range, but with LG’s speakers the highs seem to suffer, and the lows take on too much presence”.
“LG’s problem is that there are portable speakers that manage to strike a good balance in their approach, so why would you bother with LG’s slightly janky sound compared to a Sony, or a Bose, Marshall or JBL? The answer is you wouldn’t” they concluded.
“It could be that its collaboration with musician will.i.am gives them a boost, but celebrity partnerships don’t always work – will.i.am should considering how many he’s fronted”.
