After years of spruiking OLED as the ultimate display technology, LG Electronics is now pivoting. The South Korean company—who earlier this year sold its loss-making LCD manufacturing operations to TCL—is preparing to unveil a new large-screen RGB LED TV lineup at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

The move was effectively leaked after LG was listed as a participant in CES materials referencing RGB LED displays.

ChannelNews understands that the new RGB TVs will be produced by TCL, which now  owns LG’s former LED manufacturing facilities.

In Australia, LG has been steadily losing TV market share to Samsung and Hisense, as industry insiders increasingly question whether OLED remains the “premium” display option.

Many argue that modern RGB LCD and RGB LED technologies now rival OLED in picture quality but come at a lower price.

LG says it will continue to sell both OLED and LCD TVs to maintain competition with Samsung and Hisense, who are already going head-to-head with large-screen RGB LED models. TCL and Sony are also expected to showcase their latest RGB LED TVs at CES 2026.

“Micro RGB,” also known as RGB LED, is an evolution of LED backlighting that replaces conventional white LEDs with separate red, green, and blue diodes. This approach improves energy efficiency and delivers a wider colour gamut approaching the Rec.2020 standard.

Both Samsung and Hisense plan to unveil new super-sized RGB LED TVs at CES, while TCL has already launched its first RGB LED models in China. These will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2026—just in time for the Winter Olympics, which TCL is sponsoring.

Meanwhile, LG is promoting its Signature OLED T (transparent OLED TV) as a CES 2026 “Best of Innovation” award winner, ironically it’s the same model that received the identical award at CES 2025.
