Lenovo has announced the Legion R9000P 2025 Ultimate Edition gaming laptop, featuring AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor with 3D V-Cache technology and Nvidia’s RTX 5080 GPU, targeting enthusiast gamers with flagship-tier performance.

The Ultimate Edition sits above the standard R9000P 2025 line, combining cutting-edge components with advanced cooling to deliver sustained high performance for demanding games and creative workloads.

The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D utilises AMD’s Zen 5 architecture on a 4nm process, featuring 16 cores, 32 threads, and boost speeds up to 5.4GHz.

The processor’s standout feature is its massive 144MB cache enabled by 3D V-Cache technology, which significantly improves gaming performance.

The chip operates at 125W sustained power draw.

Graphics duties are handled by Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU running at full 175W TGP.

Built on the Blackwell architecture, it includes 16GB of GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit bus, supports real-time ray tracing, DLSS 4, and delivers up to 1,334 TOPS of AI compute performance.

To manage the combined 275W from CPU and GPU, Lenovo employs its second-generation Qiankun Ultra cooling system featuring upgraded Falcon 2.0 fans, custom vapour chamber design, and dedicated cooling zones for memory and SSDs.

The 16-inch OLED panel delivers 2560×1600 resolution at 240Hz with 0.08ms response time.

Display features include:

  • 1,100 nits peak brightness
  • 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage
  • Delta E <1 colour accuracy
  • Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification
  • Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium support

The laptop includes 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 1TB PCIe 5.0 SSD with dual M.2 expansion slots.

Connectivity encompasses Wi-Fi 7 with 320MHz bandwidth, 2.5GbE Ethernet, USB-C with DisplayPort 2.1 and 140W charging support, HDMI 2.1, multiple USB-A ports, and 3.5mm audio.

Additional features include the TrueStrike 2.0 keyboard with per-key RGB lighting, four-speaker Nahimic audio, and AI-powered features through Legion AI Tuning, DeepSeek R1 integration, and the Tianxi personal assistant for system optimisation and productivity tasks.

The Ultimate Edition launches in two colours on JD.com:

  • Black: 21,999 yuan (approximately $4,620)
  • White: 22,499 yuan (approximately $4,725)

For budget-conscious buyers, Lenovo offers a lower-tier configuration with Ryzen 9 9955HX (non-3D) and RTX 5070 Ti:

  • Black: 15,999 yuan (approximately $3,360)
  • White: 16,499 yuan (approximately $3,465)

The R9000P Ultimate Edition targets the Chinese market initially, with no announced plans for international availability.

The pricing positions it against premium gaming laptops from ASUS ROG, MSI, and Alienware, though the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D’s gaming-focused 3D V-Cache technology provides a unique selling point.

The combination of AMD’s latest 3D V-Cache mobile processor and Nvidia’s top-tier mobile GPU represents the current pinnacle of gaming laptop performance.

However, the aggressive 275W combined power draw will likely result in limited battery life and significant heat generation under load, making this primarily a desktop replacement rather than a portable gaming solution.

For Australian gamers, similar configurations from international brands typically retail between $5,000-$6,000, though the specific Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor may remain exclusive to select markets initially.
