Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8.5 software update may introduce a simpler way to control your phone’s flashlight, according to leaked information from SamMobile.

The update will reportedly add flashlight functionality to the Now Bar, a feature introduced in One UI 7 that displays notifications from ongoing activities like music playback and live updates on the lock screen.

When you activate the flashlight, a dedicated card will appear in the Now Bar.

Users can tap this card to turn the flashlight off directly from the lock screen or status bar, without needing to access Quick Settings, the camera interface, or unlock the device.

This eliminates the need for a separate flashlight button beside the Now Bar, freeing up lock screen space while maintaining easy access.

While seemingly minor, the feature addresses a common frustration by making flashlight control more consistent and accessible, particularly useful in urgent situations or when your hands are full.

The enhancement builds on the Now Bar’s existing functionality and will benefit a wide range of Samsung Galaxy devices once the update rolls out.

Samsung has not announced an official release date for One UI 8.5, though the emergence of these leaks suggests the update may arrive in the coming months.
