Leaked images and specifications have revealed a significant design overhaul for Insta360’s next ultra-compact action camera, featuring a new square form factor and enhanced capabilities that mark a departure from the company’s traditional pill-shaped design.

The upcoming camera, reportedly called the Insta360 Go Ultra rather than following the expected Go 4 naming convention, measures approximately 30mm on each side according to product shots shared by reliable technology leaker Roland Quandt.

The new square design places the lens in one corner of the device.

The Go Ultra weighs 53 grams, representing a notable increase from the 35.5-gram Go 3 and 26.5-gram Go 2 models.

However, the additional weight accommodates significant hardware improvements, including a new 1/1.28-inch sensor and 4K video recording capabilities at 60 frames per second.

The upgraded specifications represent a substantial performance leap, with the Go Ultra offering twice the frame rate of the Go 3S model introduced approximately one year ago.

The camera includes stabilisation technology and horizon lock functionality for improved video quality during active recording scenarios.

An Active HDR mode will enable more vivid video capture when recording at 4K/30fps, expanding the camera’s dynamic range capabilities.

These enhancements position the Go Ultra as a more capable competitor in the ultra-compact action camera market.

The Go Ultra will include a redesigned Action Pod dock featuring a flip-up screen for live preview functionality.

The dock also serves as a wireless remote control and extends the camera’s runtime, though specific battery life details remain undisclosed in current leaks.

The integration of preview capabilities addresses a common limitation of ultra-compact cameras, where users typically rely on smartphone apps or external displays for composition and monitoring during recording.

While previous Insta360 Go iterations have typically launched in June or earlier, current leaks have not revealed the official launch date for the Go Ultra.

The company has not yet announced the camera officially, leaving the release timeline uncertain.

The leaked specifications suggest Insta360 is positioning the Go Ultra as a more capable ultra-compact option, balancing increased functionality with the portability that defines the Go series.

The square design represents the most significant visual change in the product line’s evolution.
