Leak Reveals New Intel Alder Lake-HX Laptop Processor Specs
Intel is set to release several powerful new processor chips to add to their line-up of laptop CPU’s. Three chips in the new range were found in a benchmark, revealing details about their likely performance and specifications.
The leaked trio is made up of the Core i9-12950HX, the Core i7-12850HX and the Core i5-12600HX, all of which are classed under the Alder Lake-HX series. The chips were discovered and revealed by the Twitter page @BenchLeaks, which is a bot who posts leaked benchmarks of up-and-coming chips.
The new series will be packaged in BGA format and feature the desktop Alder Lake die with a few voltage tweaks.
The flagship of the line-up, the Core i9-12950HX is already a step above Intel’s current top card, the Core i9-12900HK, with the core count increasing to 16 and the thread count reaching 24. Intel will be releasing a Core i9-12900HX with these counts, but it has not yet had its benchmark results revealed.
The Core i7-12850HX has the same number of cores and threads as the flagship card, but a smaller cache size of 25MB as opposed to 30MB. Clock speeds also vary with the Core i9 boasting a 2.5GHz base that can boost up to 4.9GHz, while the Core i7 has 2.4GHz that can boost to 4.7GHz.
While the Core i5-12600HX is the slowest of the three and much more aimed at the mid-range market, it is still a competitive and powerful chip. Featuring 12 cores and 16 threads, it has clock speeds not unlike those found in the i7, with a base of 2.8GHz that ramps up to 4.6GHz when boosted. It also has a cache size of 18MB.
Benchmark tests revealed that the Core i9-12950HX came in second to the Core i9-12900H when it came to single core processing but earned the top spot with ease when it came to multi-core processing.
This trend continued with comparisons against AMD chips, however, Intel chips do have higher power requirements.
Laptops with these cards are likely to start appearing by the end of the year.
