LEAK: Is This The New Motorola Razr?

Leaked images purporting to be the rumoured revival of the Motorola Razr have surfaced online.

Rumours of the Razr remake began circulating following a patent submission in December of last year, with the Wall Street Journal reporting in January Motorola was working on a folding phone to challenge upcoming devices from Samsung and Huawei.

As a point of difference, Motorola’s appears to fold vertically rather than horizontally, with a notched chin mimicking its iconic 2000s predecessor.

The vertical fold indicates the Lenovo-owned brand opting for a smaller footprint over increased screen real estate.

Leaked renderings show the purported packaging and included accessories for an as yet unannounced Razr revival.

Motorola confirmed they are working on a foldable phone in February, with the company’s Vice President of Global Product Dan Dery telling Engadget they were testing a device featuring a similar protective plastic film which, when removed, has recently wreaked havoc for reviewer issued Samsung Galaxy Fold devices.

A similar film is expected to protect the folding screen on the upcoming Huawei Mate X.

The renders, since deleted, first appeared on Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo before making their way to Slash Leaks.

Accompanying renders also hint the rumoured Razr would support wireless charging, and earlier reports projected pricing around US$1500 (~AUD$2100).
