Some owner of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro have been complaining about “batterygate,” and are reporting that they’re suffering more battery degradation than expected and it hasn’t even been a year.

AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl tweeted his iPhone 14 Pro had already dropped to a maximum capacity of 90% in July, and there are many others with the same experience.

Apple have officially claimed iPhone batteries should “retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles.”

The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch soon, and some are claiming they will see a battery size increase of 10-18% compared to current devices.

Another user has claimed her iPhone 14 Pro is indicating 88% battery capacity, with another three at 93%, 91%, and 97% respectively. Most haven’t seen a drop in capacity until at least the two year mark.

“My iPhone 14 Pro is down to 88% battery capacity after less than a year. Is it because I use my phone too much and have already hit 450 charge cycles?! (That’s what Apple Store says.) Is it from heat from fast charging? Is there something up with the battery?”

And that’s before taking into account the expensiveness of replacing the battery once it’s past the one year warranty stage.

The battery health monitor was added in the iOS 11.3 update which also allowed users to toggle the troublesome performance.

Apple said this was a measure to protect iPhones from aging batteries.
