IFA 2019: Sonos Reveal Portable Move Speaker
Sonos’ much rumoured portable speaker has finally been revealed at IFA, alongside a new alternative to the ageing Connect streaming port.
The Move is almost twice the size of a Sonos One, weighing in at around 3 kilograms.
Sonos claim a battery life of around 10 hours, with charging coming through a wireless base or USB-C.
Batteries are rated to last about 900 charges and Sonos said it will have replacements available.
Two class-D digital amplifiers power the speaker, with one mid-woofer and one tweeter.
Other Sonos speakers are calibrated through the app using a phone’s microphone, but as a portable speaker, the Move required a more adaptive approach.
Sonos has also announced the Sonos One SL ($269), which deliberately doesn’t support either digital voice assistant.
The company also has a new streaming hub to replace the ageing Connect.
The Sonos Port ($599) integrates with existing sound systems to bring them onto the Sonos network, and also supports digital coaxial output and Apple Airplay 2.
The new Sonos products will be available online this month before making their way into stores over the coming months.
