Hynix Dumps Japanese Product

South Korea’s SK Hynix has started using a high-tech material from a Korean supplier in its chipmaking process, for the first time not relying on a Japanese product.

An unnamed Korean company will supply SK Hynix with high-purity hydrogen fluoride, used in etching silicon materials and cleaning chips.

South Korean chipmakers have been looking for Japanese alternatives since Japan imposed curbs on exports of key input products into South Korea in July.

SK Hynix started using the Korean brand material this week after running a months-long quality test.
