Huawei Watch 2 To Launch Exclusively Through Vodafone

Huawei’s latest 4G-enabled smartwatch has finally gotten a launch date for Australia.

According to Eric Zhai, Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group Australia, “as the internet of things becomes more fully realised, Smartphones and connected wearables will continue to bring benefit to people’s lives–from medical solutions to paying for public transport with a flick of your wrist. So, we are proud that the Huawei Watch 2 will be the first 4G sim enabled Watch on sale in Australia.”

The 4G Huawei Watch 2 will be available from August 16th through Vodafone’s retail and online outlets.

Boasting a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and classic wristwatch look, it’s said to be the first smartwatch running natively Android Wear 2.0 available in Australia. The Huawei Watch 2 even comes coated in Corning Gorilla Glass and IP68 rated against water and dust damage.

Most importantly, the new device features standalone connectivity (allowing it to be used outside the proximity of a smartphone), built-in SIM and GPS integration (allowing users to call, text and use network-dependent apps while on the go).

It’s also packing dual-mic noise cancellation, which Huawei says will ensure a “clear and stable telephone experience”.

“Huawei strives to improve life through innovation and connectivity and the Huawei Watch 2 is a product of that work,” Zhai says.

Finally, Huawei are emphasizing the fitness and health features of the Watch 2. According to them, it uses multiple sensors and advanced algorithms to provide the user with health data and fitness solutions, such as exercise programs and workout plans.

Vodafone Australia’s Head of Devices Ian Walls says “the Huawei Watch 2 is an innovative wearable that demonstrates how smart watches are evolving to suit people’s needs and lifestyles.”

It’ll be available exclusively from Vodafone for $599 from the 16th of August.
