Huawei Release New Watch GT Models In Oz

Chinese telco giant, Huawei, has launched its new Watch GT Active and GT Elegant in Australia, landing at Mobileciti in August, with “more retail partners to be announced.”

Huawei’s smartwatch range continues to take on the likes of Samsung, Garmin and Apple, with both new models launching for $A399.

“We have seen huge interest from consumers across the world, with more than two million Watch GTs sold since October last year,” asserts MD of Huawei Consumer Business in Australia, Larking Huang.

“The incredible sales of this watch makes Huawei one of the top 3 global smart watch sellers in the world and we are excited to launch the latest devices in Australia.”

According to IDC, Huawei notched a whopping 282% year-on-year lift in wearable growth for Q1Y19, shipping five million units in total, and nabbing a place in the top 3 global vendors.

The news comes as the Chinese manufacturer continues to rebuff concerns from Western governments its equipment poses national security risks, alongside a ban from Australia’s 5G network build.

Huawei recently lost its Android smartphone license from Google, prompting speculation the company is further developing its own homeground OS.

The new Watch GT Active features the same 46mm watch face of the GT Classic and Sport, with up to a two-week battery under typical use.

The smaller Watch GT Elegant offers a 42mm watch face with a ceramic bezel, in new sleek Magic Pearl White or Tahitian Magic Black Pearl finish.
