HTC Announce Australian Vive Launch

At a press conference at this year’s PAX Australia convention in Melbourne, HTC have announced that their premiere virtual reality experience, the HTC Vive will be coming to Australian retailers as soon as this month.

“We do see a very enthusiastic consumer base in Australia and that’s why we want to accelerate the adoption,” a senior spokesperson from HTC’s Vive team said.

The HTC Vive will come to Australian retailers Harvey Norman & JB Hi-Fi, on November 21st.

The launch will see HTC show off the Vive in demo booths inside fifty JB Hi-Fi stores and sixty Harvey Norman outlets, with the company confident that a hands-on approach will prove a breakthrough for VR tech’s mainstream appeal.

“We need some education process to let people know what VR is,” they said.

“Once we’ve brought people through the VR experience, we don’t need to do anymore. They’ve been sold.”

They didn’t rule out future plans to roll out to more widespread retailers, saying it largely depends on interest.

The Vive will be in stores from November 21st at an RRP of $1399.
