LG Bendy Phone Hits OZ $1000
It bends but it won’t break – LG Australia ‘G Flex’ – one of the world’s first curved screen smartphone – that curves to the contours of your face will be available in February at Harvey Norman, only.
However, with a $1000 pricetag curves ain’t cheap.
The state-of-the-art, handset has a 6-inch HD Curved P-OLED display, a magic “Self-Healing” elastic rear coating that eliminates scratches and a 13MP rear camera. The processor is yet to be confirmed.
LG believes flexible screens are to be the future of smartphones, and has also developed Curved OLED TV’s.
The ‘G Flex’ will be available at Harvey’s from February, outright for $999 or via Optus ‘My Plans’ including a $60 option.
It is not compatible with Telstra or Vodafone 3G networks.
The handset’s comfortable grip and technology promises better voice quality – the curved design cuts the distance between the user’s mouth and the microphone, increasing the sound level.
The G Flex also has all the buttons on the rear, allowing users to control it with their index finger in a natural position, like LG’s other newbie, G2, which has many of the same features, but costs around $650.
The high end G Flex supports various audio formats – MP3, CD quality or 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback.
Further features include KnockON, Guest Mode, Face Detection Indicator Dual Windows, Camera Timer (good for selfies), and Urgent Call Alert.
The G Flex goes on presale from today and hits stores early February. All G Flex’s purchased next month will receive a $200 Harvey Norman gift voucher.
Despite the high price, Lambro Skropidis, Marketing Manager for LG Australia, believes there’s a demand for bendy phones here.
“The handset has been well received in other markets and we anticipate that many in Australia will also be excited by this trend setting technology,” he said.
“The G Flex brings together ground-breaking design with intuitive functionality and hardware, and is testament to the huge progress LG is making in the smartphone industry. “
