Hive Shakes Up Telco With $9.80 Unlimited Offer

Telco start-up, Hive, has thrown down the gauntlet again Catch Connect, Boost, Kogan and Amaysim, launching what claims to be Australia’s cheapest unlimited mobile plan with 1GB data, for a measly $9.80/month.

Launching with five SIM-only deals, Hive’s plans range up to $73.80/month. The start-up is committed to price match or undercut rivals, further reducing its lowest cost off.

Running on the Optus 4G Plus network, Hive’s $9.80 plan includes unlimited standard local calls and texts, plus 1GB of data, with no lock-in contract. Excess data incurs 1.5c per MB ($15/GB).

The deal is set to compete with 30 other small MVNOs, whilst further intensifying price competition for Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

Currently, both Belong and Amaysim offer the same plan for $10/month, marginally surpassing Hive’s $9.80 offer.

Hive CEO, Scott Edwards, claims its cheapest plans target young Australians and senior citizens, those who “sparingly use the internet”.
