It turns out Microsoft Teams isn’t as safe as it seems, with a warning released hackers could get complete control of your PC through it.
With more than 270 million daily users, the interest in Teams from hackers has spiked, and the online meeting and collaboration space has been targeted by a new form of malware.
The security team at Avanan say thieves are trying to attack Teams users via .exe files embedded into chat threads.
If these are downloaded they attack PCs and install malware, giving the hackers complete access to whatever you have stored – and this has been quite successful.
Because it seems such a safe platform, users are more likely to download content from it than they are from emails, where default settings often scan links and files for malware.
The current threat appears to mainly be targeting US users, and features a file with the name “User Centric”.
