Google has released the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a, prioritising AI integration over significant hardware redesigns as the company seeks to compete with Samsung and Apple in premium device categories.

The devices, available ahead of the holiday shopping season, showcase Google’s Gemini AI platform across multiple form factors with varying degrees of success.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold: $2697

Google’s third-generation foldable represents an incremental update over last year’s model, maintaining similar weight and dimensions that leave it looking bulky compared to Samsung’s ultra-thin Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Key improvements include slightly smaller bezels enabling a 6.4-inch outer display (up from 6.3 inches), IP68 dust and water resistance making it the first truly dust-resistant foldable, and Qi2 magnetic wireless charging support.

The 8-inch inner display and 5,015 mAh battery provide comfortable all-day performance.

However, Google’s Tensor G5 processor trails Samsung’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip in video editing and gaming performance.

Camera quality ranks as “good enough” for everyday use but loses detail in low-light conditions compared to the conventional Pixel 10 Pro.

Gemini AI is optimised for the inner display, automatically creating calendar appointments from emails and offering screen analysis.

The Material 3 Expressive redesign provides a more cohesive software experience than Samsung’s offerings, though overall hardware remains less impressive than the Fold 7.

Pixel Watch 4: $579

The Pixel Watch 4 resembles its predecessor with 41mm and 45mm sizes, featuring improved battery life (40 hours and 30 hours respectively), a brighter Actua 360 Display peaking at 3,000 nits, and a proprietary charging dock that doubles as a stand.

New features include satellite-based emergency calling (free for the first year), dual-frequency GPS, and Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor.

Google has also made the display and battery repairable for the first time.

Gemini integration allows “Raise to Talk” activation by lifting your wrist near your mouth, though the gesture proved inconsistent during testing.

The AI assistant handles complex queries and integrates deeply with Google Calendar and Gmail, offering detailed reply suggestions with tonal options.

An AI-powered health coach interpreting workouts and recovery requires a $15-per-month Fitbit Premium subscription and launches later this month in the US.

Pixel Buds 2a: $239

Google’s first budget earbuds with active noise cancellation sit below the $379 Pixel Buds Pro 2.

The Buds 2a include permanently affixed fins for stability and Gemini Live voice command support, though they lack adaptive audio and loud noise protection found in the Pro model.

Battery life reaches seven hours with ANC enabled or 20 hours with the charging case.

Sound quality is pleasant with customisable tuning, offering solid value for Google ecosystem users without standout features over Samsung’s midrange alternatives.
