Google Search Will Warn Of ‘Fake News’ Results

Google’s recently employed fact-checking mechanism is a step forward in the fight to combat the era of fake news, but during breaking news events, it has proven to not be enough.

The company is now stepping up this diligence further, now warning the user when it cannot guarantee the authenticity of a search result item.

An explanation will follow the warning, stating that this is a new topic you are searching for, and the veracity of the information contained within the article link cannot be verified.

This is because the fact-checking algorithm they have previously employed takes time, especially when all the facts may not yet have come to light. In the interim, this warning will flash up.

Google has confirmed it is currently testing this new fake news mechanism, starting last week.
